Baby Q - 11 Weeks Old

Look how much he's grown!  I feel like I'm actually growing a human being now instead of a little blob.  We keep referring to Baby Q as a he, so we may have to really work at changing our mindset if it turns out to be a girl, but for now, it's a he!  We figure it's a 50/50 shot anyway so chances are fairly good that we are right!

We got to see him waving right when our doctor put the ultrasound machine on my tummy, and could see his little fingers. Then he started rolling around and punching and kicking so it was a lot harder to get another good shot of him. He was partying! If that is any indication of what is to come, my tummy is sure going to be sore, and we may be in for more than we bargained for when he starts growing up!

We also got to hear the heartbeat through a doppler machine that works like the ultrasound but is hooked up to a speaker. The doctor had a hard time finding it at first, but once she hooked up the ultrasound and saw where he was hiding, it was a slam dunk!  It was such an incredible sound. It makes it much more "real" that there is a little person in there.

This has been such a shining light in the seemingly constant darkness that we have been facing with the loss of my mom and now the tragic loss of Jake's cousin Lindsay. This little one is a constant reminder that life is fragile and precious. Live every day to its fullest!

Baby Q - 8 Weeks Old

Look how big he/she has grown in 2 weeks! Baby Q was 8 weeks old on May 31st. The ultrasound was taken on June 3rd. (This was our "freebie", so we just got to enjoy seeing it again.) We could see the heartbeat a little more clearly this time, and it was sure flickering fast! Everything is still measuring the way it is supposed to, so that's good. My doctor is just a GYN, so we have to find an OB in Albany or Corvallis. (Jake is a little nervous about having to drive me to Corvallis when the time comes to deliver, so we may stay in Albany :) I have an appointment with Dr. Daskalos in Albany on Thursday, June 17th for our first official appointment. Pretty exciting! Hopefully we will be able to hear the heartbeat for the first time at that appointment, but it may still be a little early.

So far, I haven't had any really weird food cravings....just normal stuff at odd times. Like we had finished dinner a couple weeks ago and were getting ready for bed, and a commercial came on for pancakes, and I said, hm, pancakes sound good! Jake thought it was a little weird....Or we were driving home from Eugene the other day and I thought of Albertson's cookies and had to have one. Jake drove me to get some....what a good man! I have been trying really hard to eat right, but every now and then, baby wants something sweet, and who am I to say no?? I haven't gained any weight yet (maybe a pound, but it fluctuates day to day), so that's good so far. The second trimester is sure to pack on the pounds, so I'll enjoy it while it lasts. My pants are preeeeeetty tight though, so I feel like I'm getting close to those comfy maternity pants Kim bought for me. I've been no stranger to sweat pants before I was pregnant, so what better excuse than this to wear them now?

I know my mom is watching over us and keeping an eye on this baby for me. She's taught me a lot of great lessons that will help me as we make this journey together...Thanks Ma!

Baby Q - 6 Weeks Old

Baby Q was 6 weeks old on May 17th. The ultrasound was taken on May 20th....we were able to see the heartbeat flicker (can't hear it yet!) and everything looks and measures good. The printer on the ultrasound machine wasn't working, so my doctor said I could come back in a couple of weeks to get a freebie. We will get to see it again on June 3rd just for fun. I've been feeling fairly good, just a little nausea throughout the day and a few food aversions that keep me from eating pulled pork, bbq sauce, and macaroni salad. Even thinking about it makes me feel yucky, so we will leave it at that. I've been pretty tired lately....I could tell you when it is around 3:00 because my body clock says it's time for a nap! Overall though, things are going well.

The "Q" Team

Hello!

We thought it might be fun to keep everyone up to date on our lives and the life of Baby Q as we find out how he/she is doing. We are so excited to be experiencing this together, and are happy to be able to share it with all of you. Enjoy!
